Every year at the beginning of June, tens of thousands of commercial vehicles are inspected during the CVSAs Roadcheck event. This year was marked with a surge in the number of vehicles inspected along with a positive reduction in the number of out of service orders. Here’s a run-down of the numbers from this year’s event that took place June 3^rd to 5^th.

• 73,475 truck and bus inspections were completed.
• 49,656 North American Standard Level I inspections were completed, where drivers and vehicles are assessed for violations of federal, state, or provincial safety regulations. Of these Level I inspections, 23% were found with out-of-service violations (down from last year’s percentage of 24.1).
• The overall percentage of drivers who were placed out of service rose to 4.8%.
• Driver inspections totaled 72,415.
• 825 seatbelt violations were issued.
• Vehicle inspection results:
  • Brake violations related to adjustments and systems were the most common violations resulting in a vehicle being placed out-of-service. They accounted for 46.2% of all out-of-service violations issued.
  • 81.3% of vehicles inspected had no out-of-service violations.
  • Level I Inspections: 77% of vehicles had no out-of-service violations.
  • Driver Inspection Results:
    • Hours-of-Service violations were the most common violations resulting in a driver being placed out-of-service. They accounted for 46.5% of all driver violations.
    • 95.2% of all drivers had no out-of-service violations.
    • Level I Inspections: 96.0% of drivers had no out-of-service violations.
